1836–41 W. T. Brande Man. Chem. (ed. 5) 1198 On evaporation [of an extract from the root of Scabiosa succisa] a yellow acid product is obtained: in this state Berzelius proposes to call it verdous acid.
1843 Penny Cycl. XXVI. 256/1 Berzelius..proposes to call the colourless the verdous and the coloured the verdic acid.
