Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin paradiseus , -an suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin paradiseus of or relating to paradise (15th cent.; < paradisus paradise n. + -eus : see -eous suffix) + -an suffix; compare -ean suffix. In sense 2 after scientific Latin Paradisaea, genus name (see paradisaeid n.); compare scientific Latin paradiseus (1758 as a specific name). With sense 2 compare French paradiséané resembling or relating to the birds of paradise (1838). Compare earlier paradisaical adj., paradisal adj., paradised adj., paradisiac adj., paradisian adj.
