Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi pālkī.
Etymology: < Hindi pālkī (in southern vernacular languages of South Asia without ellision of the medial vowel, as pālakī ) palanquin, litter, conveyance carried on the shoulders < Sanskrit palyaṅka (see palanquin n.).
Now chiefly historical.
Chiefly in South Asia: a palanquin.
