Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French panclastite.

Etymology: < French panclastite (1883 or earlier; dated 1865 in Robert Dict. alphabétique et analogique (1986), but it has not been possible to verify this) < pan- pan- comb. form + ancient Greek κλαστός broken (see clastic adj.) or -κλαστης breaker (see -clast comb. form) + French -ite -ite suffix¹. Compare German Panklastit ( < French; 1883 or earlier: see E. Turpin 1883, in Berichte der Deutsch. Chem. Ges. 15 2946).

Now rare.
