Etymology: < Pamphylia (classical Latin Pamphȳlia , ancient Greek Παμϕυλία ), the ancient name of the coastal region of southern Asia Minor situated between the ancient regions of Lycia and Cilicia, to the east of the present port of Antalya in southern Turkey + -an suffix; originally after Middle French Pamphilien (1558 in the passage translated in quot. 1568 at sense A. 1).
