Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish pacifico.
Etymology: < Spanish pacifico, use as noun of pacifico peaceful, pacifist (see pacific adj.1). With more general use perhaps compare politico n., musico n.
Now historical.
A native or inhabitant of Cuba or the Philippines who, in the 1890s, did not actively support the uprisings against the Spanish government. Also occasionally more generally (colloquial): a pacifist.
