Etymology: Cognate with or formed similarly to Middle Dutch overout (Dutch overoud ), Old Saxon oƀarald (Middle Low German överōlt ), Old High German ubaralt (Middle High German überalt , German überalt , now rare) < the Germanic base of over- prefix + the Germanic base of old adj.
Too old. Also (now archaic): very old, antiquated.
