Etymology: < scientific Latin Osteichthyes (see quot. 1880) < ancient Greek ὀστέον bone (see osteo- comb. form) + plural of ἰχθύς fish (see ichthyo- comb. form).

With plural agreement. A large class of fishes, including the majority of modern species, members of which are characterized by a predominantly bony skeleton and the possession of jaws; fishes of this class.
