Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin ossosus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin ossosus bony (4th cent.) < classical Latin oss- , os bone (see os n.1) + -ōsus -ous suffix. N.E.D. (1903) gives the pronunciation as (ǫ·səs) /ˈɒsəs/.
Obsolete. rare.
