Etymology: < Middle French ornature ornament, ornamentation (1425) and its etymon post-classical Latin ornatura (Vetus Latina) < classical Latin ōrnāt- , past participial stem of ōrnāre orn v. + -ūra -ure suffix1. Compare Italian ornatura (14th cent.).
Now rare.
Ornament, adornment, decoration; embellishment, finery.
