Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin osculum pacis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin osculum pacis (frequently from 10th cent. in British sources) < classical Latin ōsculum osculum n. + pācis , genitive of pāx peace (see peace n.).
Now rare.
A kiss given as a sign of friendliness, the kiss of peace; spec. that greeting given as a token of Christian love at early Christian religious services.
