Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Ordnung.
Etymology: < German Ordnung order (Old High German ordinunga < ordinōn ( < classical Latin ōrdināre ordain v.) + -unga -ing suffix1), via specific use in Pennsylvania German.
In the Amish community: an unwritten but strictly upheld code of behaviour, reviewed and updated twice yearly by the church's leaders and subject to endorsement by its members.
