Etymology: < post-classical Latin os coxae (1538 or earlier) < classical Latin os os n.1 + coxae , genitive of coxa coxa n. Compare classical Latin coxārum osse (Celsus).
Anatomy and Zoology.
The large, irregularly shaped bone of the pelvic girdle consisting of the fused ilium, ischium, and pubis; the hip bone. Also called os innominatum.
