1877 H. Watts Dict. Chem. IV. 235 Stenhouse designated the acid obtained from South American Roccella..as α-orsellic, and that prepared..from South African Roccella as β-orsellic.

1967 Canad. Med. Assoc. Jrnl. 19 Aug. 384/1 Patch tests were positive for the following ‘lichen substances’: the depsides, evernic and perlatolic acids (orsellic acid derivatives) and a depside, atranorine (betaorsellic acid derivative), 1% in petroleum jelly.

1989 Jrnl. Chromatogr. 466 301 Whereas a freshly prepared laboratory extract of Evernia prunastri contains mainly evernic acid, heating at 118° C results in decomposition products such as..orsellic acid.
