Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French opticien.
Etymology: < French opticien an expert in or student of optics (c1640), a maker of optical instruments (1765) < either optique or classical Latin opticē (see optics n.) + French -ien -ian suffix; compare -ician suffix.
