Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin operabilis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin operabilis working, active, efficacious (4th cent.), able to be produced or affected by action (from 1267 in British sources) < classical Latin operārī operate v. + -bilis -ble suffix. Compare Middle French operable pushing into action, causing to act (c1450), French opérable able to be operated on (1845–6).
