Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese onsen.
Etymology: < Japanese onsen (earlier as wonsen, 701; 1603 as uonxen in Vocabulario da Lingoa de Iapam) < on- warm + -sen spring, both < Middle Chinese.
In Japan: a hot spring, esp. one thought to have medicinal properties; a hot spring resort.
