Etymology: < off- prefix + -scape comb. form. N.E.D. (1902) gives the pronunciation as (ǫ̀·fskeip) /ˈɒfskeɪp/ for offscape and (ǫ̀·fskip) /ˈɒfskɪp/ for offskip.
Now rare.
A distant view or prospect; the distant part of a view or prospect, the distance, background.Used esp. in the 18th and early 19th centuries in describing paintings, scenery, etc.
