Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: oil n.1, bird n.
Etymology: < oil n.1 + bird n.
1. A nocturnal, fruit-eating bird resembling a large nightjar, Steatornis caripensis (the only member of the family Steatornithidae), which nests in colonies in caves in northern South America and Trinidad and has very fat nestlings which have been harvested for oil. Also called guacharo.
