Etymology: < Swahili baraza the reception area of a dwelling (indoors or outdoors), the people who gather in such an area, (hence) meeting, assembly, (institutionalized) council (plural unchanged) < Arabic barza wedding tent, social gathering, meeting < baraza to come out, to appear, to come into view.
East African.
A meeting, assembly, or council. In early use also: a reception room.
