Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin nymphomania.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin nymphomania (1632; < nympha labia minora (see nympha n.) + -mania -mania comb. form). Compare French nymphomanie (1721).
1. Uncontrollable or excessive sexual desire, spec. in a woman. Frequently hyperbolical. Cf. satyriasis n.Kersey takes his entry from Steven Blankaart's Physical Dict. (Latin–English) of 1684.
