Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: oculi- comb. form, -ferous comb. form.
Etymology: < oculi- comb. form + -ferous comb. form. Compare French oculifère (dated 1838 in Robert Dict. Alphabétique et Analogique (1986)), post-classical Latin oculifer (1849 in the passage translated in quot. 1856-8).
Zoology. Now rare.
Bearing an eye or eyes.
