Origin: From a proper name. Etymons: proper name Nuzi, Nuzu.
Etymology: < Nuzi or Nuzu, the name of the site of an ancient Mesopotamian city located close to Kirkuk in present-day Iraq.In the Old Akkadian period the settlement was called Gasur. Later it was renamed Nuzi and was a local administrative centre within the Mitanni empire. The modern name is Yorghan Tepe.
