Medicine and Biology.
A sodium salt of casein used as a source of protein in medicine and bacteriology. Frequently attributive in nutrose agar.

1896 Pharmaceut. Jrnl. 3 63/1 Nutrose. A food preparation introduced under this name consists of a neutral compound of casein with alkali.
1907 in C. von Noorden et al. Metabolism & Pract. Med. II. ii. 73 I see many patients who..have added large quantities of nutrose, plasmon, tropon, sanatogen, roborat, etc., to their ordinary daily food, with the intention of strengthening themselves.
