Etymology: < classical Latin oenomeli (in post-classical Latin also oenomelum , 6th–7th cent.) a drink consisting of wine mixed with honey < Hellenistic Greek οἰνόμελι < ancient Greek οἰνο- oeno- comb. form + μέλι honey (see mell n.²). Compare French œnomel (1819).
