Etymology: In early use < Italian norma norma n. or classical Latin norma norma n. In quot. 1875 apparently an isolated use, perhaps independently < French norme norma n.; compare norm n.1
Obsolete. rare.
Originally: something which is a model or type. In later use: a typical or usual value.
