释义

normalienn.

Brit. /ˈnɔːmaljã/, /ˈnɔːmalɪən/, U.S. /ˌnɔrmɑˈliən/
Forms: also with capital initial.
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French normalien.
Etymology: < French normalien (1861) < the name of the École Normale Supérieure (see normal adj.) + -ien -ian suffix.
A student or graduate from an École Normale Supérieure, spec. that of the rue d'Ulm in Paris. In 1985 the École Normale Supérieure of the rue d'Ulm merged with École Normale Supérieure de Jeunes Filles (founded 1881) in Sèvres. In English the term normalien, although chiefly used to refer to men, is occasionally used to refer to female students or graduates. However the French feminine form normalienne is occasionally also used in English for this purpose. Cf.:
