Etymology: < nicotine n. + -ic suffix. Compare French nicotinique (1878, replacing earlier nicotique : see nicotic adj.).In nicotinic acid (see Compounds) after German Nicotinsäure (H. Weidel 1873, in Ann. der Chem. u. Pharm. 165 330).
