Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek νεοσσός , -ptile comb. form.
Etymology: < ancient Greek (non-Attic) νεοσσός a young bird (see neossine n.) + -ptile comb. form.
Ornithology.
Any of the soft or downy feathers of a juvenile bird. Often contrasted with teleoptile.
