单词 nemato-
释义

nemato-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly.
Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek νήματ- , νῆμα , -o- connective.
Etymology: < ancient Greek νήματ-, νῆμα thread ( < νεῖν to spin, cognate with classical Latin nēre (see needle n.) + -μα : see -oma comb. form) + -o- connective.English formations are found from the mid 19th cent. (e.g. nematopode n., nematoid adj., nematophore n.), the earliest examples being after models in post-classical Latin or scientific Latin. Compare also French némato- and German nemato-, formations in both of which are found from the 19th cent. The position of the stress differs between compounds of nemato- in accordance with the general stress patterns of English. Contrastive stress may also give rise contextually to primary stress on the first syllable of the prefix in compounds where the stress ordinarily falls elsewhere.
