Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: necto- comb. form, -pod comb. form.
Etymology: < necto- comb. form + -pod comb. form, after German Schwimmfuß, lit. ‘swimming-foot’ (1894 in the passage translated in quot. 1896).
Zoology. Obsolete. rare.
In some crustaceans: a broad, flat, thoracic limb adapted for swimming. Cf. pereiopod n.
