Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin natatorium.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin natatorium place for swimming (Vulgate), use as noun of neuter singular of classical Latin natātōrius for swimming (see natatory adj.). Compare earlier natatory adj.
Originally and chiefly North American.
A swimming pool, esp. an indoor one; a complex containing one or more such pools. Occasionally also: an area of a sea, lake, etc., suitable for swimming.
