Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: necro- comb. form, -philia comb. form.
Etymology: < necro- comb. form + -philia comb. form, after German Nekrophilie (1887 in the passage translated in quot. 1892). Compare French nécrophilie (see necrophily n.). Compare earlier necrophilism n. and slightly later necrophily n.
Originally Psychology.
Fascination with death and dead bodies; esp. sexual attraction to, or intercourse with, dead bodies.
