Etymology: < myxo- comb. form + spore n.
1. Biology. A fungal spore produced within a slimy or gelatinous mass; the spore of a myxomycete. Obsolete.

2. Microbiology. A resting spore formed in the fruiting bodies of certain myxobacteria in response to adverse conditions; a microcyst.
