Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: myo- comb. form, -graph comb. form.
Etymology: < myo- comb. form + -graph comb. form, after French myographe (1824 in sense ‘someone who describes muscles’ (compare myography n. 1), 1866 or earlier denoting E. J. Marey's device (see quot. 1867); compare E. J. Marey 1866, in Jrnl. de l'Anat. 415). Compare myographion n.
Medicine.
An instrument for displaying or recording muscular contractions and relaxations; (now) esp. an electromyograph.
