Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French musquin.
Etymology: < Middle French musquin, musequin pretty face, sweetheart, fun-loving girl (15th cent.; c1350 in sense ‘piece of armour in the shape of a lion's muzzle’; compare also the feminine form musquine sweetheart, fun-loving girl (15th cent.; French regional (Walloon) musquine )), probably < museau face (see muzzle n.1) + French regional (Flanders, Picardy) -quin , diminutive suffix ( < Middle Dutch -kijn -kin suffix); perhaps also influenced by Middle Dutch muuskijn (Dutch (archaic) muisken ) little mouse < muus mouse n. + -kijn -kin suffix.
Obsolete.
A pretty face. Hence used as a term of endearment for a girl or young woman.

Origin: Of unknown origin.
Etymology: Origin unknown. Perhaps compare Dutch (archaic) muisken little mouse (see muskin n.1).Apparently revived in quot. 1922 from dictionary record.
