单词 mugo
释义

mugon.

Brit. /ˈmjuːɡəʊ/, U.S. /ˈmjuɡoʊ/
Forms: 1700s mugos, 1800s mughos, 1800s– mugho, 1900s– mugo.
Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian mugo.
Etymology: Partly < Italian mugo small mountain pine (plural mughi; 1563 in Mattioli; 1561 as mugho), probably of pre-Indo-European origin. Compare Italian regional (Trent) mughi (plural), cited as a local word by Mattioli ( Commentarii in Libros Sex Pedacii Dioscoridis de Medica Materia (1554)). Compare French mugho (1868 in Littré), post-classical Latin pinus mugo (1558 in Mattioli), pinus mughus. The explanation for early forms in final -s is unclear.
In full mugo pine. The dwarf mountain pine, Pinus mugo, of central and south-eastern European mountains, which forms a counterpart to the tree-sized P. uncinata of south-western Europe.
