Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin suffrāgātor.
Etymology: < classical Latin suffrāgātor voter, supporter, in post-classical Latin also intercessor (from 11th cent. in British sources) < suffrāgāt- , past participial stem of suffrāgārī suffragate v. + -or -or suffix.Compare Middle French suffragateur supporter (1534).
Now Roman History.
1. An intermediary between humankind and God. Obsolete.Sometimes distinguished from an intercessor in being one who conveys (favourable) information about a person to God, without actually interceding on his or her behalf.Apparently only in 17th cent.
