Etymology: < Malayalam mañjīl, mañcal stage, day's journey, hammock-litter < Arabic manzil manzil n. Compare Tamil mañcil , macil stage of a journey. Compare machila n. N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (mɒnˌtʃī·l) /mʌnˈtʃiːl/.
Anglo-Indian. Obsolete.
A kind of litter resembling a hammock, used on the south-western coast of India.
