Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French montée.
Etymology: < Middle French montée the action of a bird rising in flight, the point at which a rising bird can no longer be seen with the naked eye (14th cent.; 12th cent. in Old French in general senses) < monter mount v. + -ée -y suffix5.
Falconry. Now historical.
The action or an act of a falcon rising in flight before swooping down on the quarry. Also: the height achieved and maintained after such a flight; = pitch n.2 18a.
