Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin motorius.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin motorius relating to movement (3rd cent.) < classical Latin mōtor (see motor n.) + -ius , suffix forming adjectives (compare -ory suffix2). Compare Middle French, French †motoire that sets in motion (1555; 1611 in Cotgrave).
Now rare.
