Etymology: < Spanish Moqui (1598; also in forms Mohoqui, Mooque; originally representing /ˈmokwi/ but later taken as /ˈmoki/) < Zuñi mu:kwiHopi < archaic Hopi mó:·kwi.The name Moqui was officially replaced by Hopi in 1923 in response to complaints that it resembled Hopi mó·ki dies, is dead.
