Etymology: < classical Latin mortifer, mortiferus ( < mort- , mors death (see mort n.1) + -fer -fer comb. form) + -ous suffix; compare -ferous comb. form. Compare French mortifère (1491 in Middle French as mortifere, also in Middle French as mortifereux (1537)).
