Primary stress is attracted to the first syllable of this suffix and vowels may be reduced accordingly; see e.g.
moscatello n.Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian -ello.
Etymology: < Italian -ello < classical Latin -ellus -ellus suffix, -ellum -ellum suffix.Borrowing of Italian words in -ello is found from the late 16th cent. (compare duello n., saltarello n.). Formations within English are very rare: compare ministello n., saxello n., and also morello n., Punchinello n.
