Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi mor-paṅkhī.
Etymology: < Hindi mor-paṅkhī, lit. ‘resembling a peacock's wing’ (hence in senses ‘peacock-shaped, peacock-blue’) < mor-paṅkh peacock's wing ( < mor peacock ( < Sanskrit mayūra ) + -paṅkh wing ( < Sanskrit pakṣa : see punkah n.)) + , feminine suffix forming adjectives.
Anglo-Indian. Now historical.
In India: a kind of pleasure boat used on the River Ganges, built in the shape of a peacock.
