Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French monte-jus.
Etymology: < French monte-jus (1845 or earlier) < monter mount v. + jus juice n.In form montejuice remodelled after juice n. Not fully naturalized in English. O.E.D. Suppl. (1976) gives the non-naturalized pronunciation (moṅtˌʒüs) /mɔ̃t(ə)ʒys/.
Now historical.
In sugar refining: an apparatus for raising the juice from the cane-mill to clarifiers on a higher level by means of air or steam pressure.
