Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin molaris.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin molaris (of a tooth) molar, grinding (see molar n. and adj.1); compare -ary suffix2. With molary tooth compare molar tooth at molar adj.1 1a. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (mōu·lări) /ˈməʊlərɪ/.
Zoology. Obsolete.
Of a tooth: adapted for grinding or pulverizing food. Cf. molar n. 1.
