Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek μονόχρονος , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek μονόχρονος momentary, in Hellenistic Greek also in prosody ( < μονο- mono- comb. form + χρόνος time: see -chronous comb. form) + -ous suffix. Compare earlier monochronic adj., and also trichronous adj., dichronous adj.

1. Prosody. Of the length of one short syllable or mora (mora n.1 3a). Obsolete.
