Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: mono- comb. form, rhythm n., -ic suffix, rhythmic adj.
Etymology: In sense 1 < mono- comb. form + rhythm n. + -ic suffix (compare monorhythm n.); in sense 2 < mono- comb. form + rhythmic adj. With sense 2 compare French monorythmique (1897–1900), Italian monoritmico (1869).
