Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: mogi- comb. form, -phonia comb. form.
Etymology: < mogi- comb. form + -phonia comb. form, after German Mogiphonie (B. Fränkel 1887, in Deutsch. Med. Wochenschr. 13 122/2, after Mogigraphie: see mogigraphy n.).
Medicine. Obsolete.
Difficulty in producing loud vocal sounds, as in public speaking or singing, attributed to overuse of the voice.

1894 J. Wyllie Disorders of Speech iii. 64 (note) He [sc. Fränkel] uses ‘Mogiphonia’ as a general term for these fatigue neuroses of the larynx.
1897 T. C. Allbutt et al. Syst. Med. IV. 850 The cases described by B. Fränkel under the name mogiphonia.
